Get ready for an intense battle as the LA Kings take on the Edmonton Oilers in a thrilling Pacific Division showdown!
A nail-biting shootout victory!
The LA Kings, with an impressive record of 19-15-10, emerged victorious over the Edmonton Oilers (22-16-7) in a thrilling 4-3 shootout win on Saturday night. Goalie Anton Forsberg was the hero, making five crucial saves in overtime and an impeccable 3-for-3 performance in the shootout.
Corey Perry, Andre Lee, and Alex Laferriere were the goal scorers for the Kings, with Brandt Clarke assisting twice and Adrian Kempe sealing the deal in the shootout.
But here's where it gets controversial...
The game started with a bang as Leon Draisaitl put the Oilers ahead early in the first period, capitalizing on a turnover caused by their aggressive forecheck. However, the Kings fought back, with Perry tying the game at 1-1 before the period ended.
Draisaitl struck again in the second, putting Edmonton back in the lead, but Lee quickly responded with his first goal of the season, redirecting a rebound to make it 2-2.
LA took the lead for the first time in the third period, thanks to a deflection off Laferriere's stick, but the Oilers weren't done yet. Connor McDavid scored on a power play to tie the game once more.
The game remained deadlocked through regulation and a back-and-forth overtime, with a controversial call of goaltender interference denying McDavid a potential game-winner.
And this is the part most people miss...
Forsberg, with 21 saves, was the star of the show, earning the win for the Kings. Ingram, despite stopping 28 shots, couldn't prevent the loss for Edmonton.
Postgame, the Kings' players and coach shared their thoughts.
Andre Lee on the win:
"It was a huge character win for us. We had some key players out, played a tough game last night, and then came into a tough arena to win in. Forsberg was unbelievable, giving us a chance to win."
Alex Laferriere on Forsberg's performance:
"He's a gamer, and he comes up huge in big moments. Having him back there gives us confidence, and it's huge for the team."
Jim Hiller on the team's depth:
"Our depth is incredible. Guys like Lee and Ward, who haven't played much this year, came in and produced. They played against top players and shut them down. It's huge to have that depth, especially in back-to-back games."
Hiller on Corey Perry's return:
"He's a true hockey player. He's going through a tough time, but he shows up, wants to play, and help the team. He scored a goal and played against McDavid's line. I have so much respect for him."
Hiller on responding to losses:
"Last night's game was funny. We had so many chances, but the score was demoralizing. We played through it and finished the third period hard. That carried over tonight, and it's a really good win for us."
After a well-deserved day off, the Kings return home to face the Dallas Stars on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena.
Don't miss out on the action!
