Tip of Nordø: Copenhagen's Modern Lighthouse Office Building - Architecture Tour & Design Insights (2025)

Prepare to be amazed by the Tip of Nordø, a stunning architectural masterpiece that's more than just an office building!

Located on the coast of Copenhagen, this cylindrical wonder is a public winter garden, a modern lighthouse, and a symbol of the city's rich history. Designed by Danish studios Cobe, Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, and Third Nature, Tip of Nordø pays homage to Copenhagen's historic silos while transforming a former industrial port into a vibrant contemporary neighborhood.

But here's where it gets controversial... Tip of Nordø stands tall at 60 meters, designed as an "anchor point" for the Nordhavn district. With its unique cylindrical form and strategically placed windows, it offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the city and the Øresund Strait. Unlike traditional silos, Tip of Nordø is a beacon of light and openness, inviting the local community to connect and explore.

And this is the part most people miss... The round shape of the building promotes equality and democracy in the workplace. No more corner offices as the best spots; everyone enjoys equal access to natural light, breathtaking views, and a sense of inclusion. It's a revolutionary concept that challenges traditional office hierarchies.

Inside, Tip of Nordø houses 1,500 adaptable workspaces for multiple tenants, including law firm Bech-Bruun and energy investment company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). But the heart of the building is its central atrium, a vibrant space with a ground-floor winter garden and cafe, all accessible to the public year-round.

"The building carries a responsibility to contribute to its surroundings," says Malte Rosenquist, partner at Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects. "From the outset, we aimed for transparency and approachability, inviting the public inside to experience this architectural marvel."

The exterior landscape design, overseen by Third Nature, further enhances the industrial aesthetic of the office. With amphitheater-like seating and soft coastal planting, the terrace creates a welcoming transition from the city to the harbor, encouraging activity and community engagement.

Tip of Nordø is a finalist in the large workplace category of the Dezeen Awards 2025, competing against other impressive projects like an artisanal mezcal production facility in Mexico, office buildings connected by a glass bridge in the US, and Finland's largest mass-timber building.

So, what do you think? Is Tip of Nordø a groundbreaking architectural achievement or just another office building? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
